During the 61st Sawai Gandharva Music Festival 2013,which has been now named “Sawai Gandharva Bhimsen Mahostava” a tribute to Bharatratna Pt Bhimsen Joshi by his diciple Pt Upendra Bhat who is a member of Kannada Sangha Singing during the festival.
Pt Bhimsen Joshi was associated with Kannada Sangha Pune as a life member. Kannada Sangha is now on 62nd year with many memories to cherish with greatest Hindustani muscian of our time hails from Karnataka and lived in Maharshtra.
Kannada Sangha Pune during the 61st year and Golden Jubilee of Kaveri group of Institutes added another feather in its cap.
Kannada Sangha recd a prestigious award titled “Alva’s Vishwa Nudisiri Virasat-2013″ on 21st 0f December at historical rural area called Moodbidri in Karnataka.
Award was given in recognisation of Kannada Sangha Pune’s contribution in the fields of culture,Education and Social service.
The award consisiting of Rs 25000 in cash,A Momento and a citation along with the details of Kannada Sangha,s efforts and achivements highlighted in the sovenier and conveying history of success story to huge gathering.
14 Awards for individual contributions,NRI’s from different part of the world different associations from various places of India and borders of Karnataka were distrbuted by President of the event Dr B.A .Vivek Rai along with Sri Mohan Alva CMD of Alva’s foundation.
This colorful event of 4 days attracted lakhs of people from all over India and abroad with cultural events,seminars,folk arts, music,dances,agricultural exhibition in 9 different stages continuously.
Kannada Sangha earlier received Karnataka Rajyostava Award and Sanghabharati Awards.
A grand cultural event representing most of Indian states and panorama of dances presented by students of Alva’s Education Foundation,Moodbidri,in rural Karnataka entertained to the fullest satisfaction of Pune’s culture loving community and appreciated as one of the most memorable cultural extragavanza in the city.
Jointly organised by all the Karnataka associations of Pune and the event was supervised by efficient guidence of Dr Mohan Alva ,C.M.D of Alva’s education foundation where over 18000 students learning culture along with education and troup of 200 selected students duly trained and taken all over India and abroad and spreading the variety of Indian culture effectively.
Alva’s Virasat has variety of dances like Mohini Attam from Kerala,Rajasthani Banjara,Yakshgana from Karntaka,Lavani from Maharshtra,Gotipova and Odissi from Orissa,Dhol Challam and Raslila from Manipur,Bharat Natyam from south,Kathak from north,Candy dance from Sri lanka and Lion Dance from West Bengal and more.
Alva’s Vishva Virasat-2013 will be held in an International scale at Moodbidri Inviting over 50 000 people daily to watch performances on 10 stages for 4 days from Dec19th to 22nd.Pune event was a pre view of the coming event.

This programme is a combination of various cultural dances from different states of India along with drama’s performed by well trained 150 artists.

Shivakumara Kalasangha Sanehalli,Karnataka successfully played and launched the hidi version of the drama in Kannada Sangha’s Ketkar road auditorium on wednesday 16th Octber 2013.
This drama was a success in Karnataka and now started playing all over India covering 11000km Maharastra,M.P,Gujarat,Uttarakhand,West Bengal A.P .The drama is based on great philosphor,writer and secular reformer who taught to the world ‘Work is the real worship’.Caste creed are not there in almighty’s view.His ideals are exactly suit the present day life and hence he has been known as “Jagajyoti Basaweshwara”
The drama was played all over the country as a tribute all the piligrims who lost the life in the foot hills of Kedarnath recently.
The artists were also from various background,caste and walks of life.
Play was appreciated by every one who attended.It was brilliantly diplayed by good acting.lyrics,music and settings.Ultimately convinced all the audience “Death is an ultimate celebration of ones life” means Maran hi mahanavami!
